Our Concrete Commitment to a Sustainable Future
Project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund

The SIMEL Photovoltaic Plant
SIMEL has placed a strong bet on renewable energy and by virtue of the European programme POR FESR 2014-2020 (Asse 4 – Azione 4.2.1) has built two photovoltaic plants over 11 years: one in 2011 with a power of 200 kWp and a second of 340 kWp in 2022. With these plants, SIMEL is positioned as one of the local leaders in the production of clean energy for self-consumption, owning the second largest private photovoltaic plant in the entire province of Ferrara.
In addition to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions, the energy generated allows significant cost savings, also optimised thanks to financing from the Emilia-Romagna Region’s Energy Fund. The project is an example of how a medium-sized company can adopt advanced energy solutions, achieving economic and environmental benefits.
Numbers and Technical Details of the Plants
SIMEL’s photovoltaic systems consist of the latest generation of panels with a conversion efficiency of over 21% and use class 1 modules for fire resistance, guaranteeing safety during operation.
The 2011 plant, built by KaSolari S.R.L., has a capacity of 200 kWp and can produce up to 210.000 kWh per year, while the 2022 plant, built by CreaEnergia S.R.L. with a capacity of 340 kWp and a capacity of 350.000 kWh, uses high-quality inverters and a continuous monitoring system to check production and efficiency in real time.
Together, the two plants produce around 560.000 kWh of energy per year, covering well over 60% of the company’s energy requirements of around 700.000 kWh per year.
Safe & Green: Complete Commitment to the Environment
Thanks to photovoltaic systems, SIMEL has improved the sustainability of its operations by renovating part of its production machinery and replacing presses with more efficient motorised versions, further reducing energy consumption.
But SIMEL’s commitment to the environment is not limited to the production of renewable energy. As part of the Safe & Green programme, SIMEL combines photovoltaic energy with careful waste management and control of emissions into the atmosphere, within regulatory limits. This commitment has been recognised with ISO 14001 certification, testimony to the company’s focus on sustainability.
