UKCA Marking

Ensuring the Conformity of Our Products in the UK

With Brexit, the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark was introduced to certify that products conform to the safety and quality requirements of the UK market. SIMEL is committed to complying with these requirements to ensure maximum reliability and safety for our customers.

What is the UKCA Mark?

The UKCA mark is the new compliance standard for products sold in the UK (England, Wales and Scotland), introduced after Brexit. This mark is necessary to ensure that products comply with the safety, health and environmental requirements set by UK regulations.

Why is it Important?

The UKCA mark is a guarantee for customers in the UK market. It certifies that the products have undergone the necessary checks and comply with all applicable UK regulations. This gives customers the confidence that they are using a motor that has been designed according to best practice in terms of safety and quality.

The Requirements of the UKCA Mark

The UKCA mark requires compliance with specific UK regulations and includes:

  • Conformity Assessment: Analysis of compliance with requirements set out in UK directives, similar to European directives.
  • Technical Documentation: Preparation of a technical dossier demonstrating the product’s compliance with UKCA regulations.
  • UK Declaration of Conformity: Formal declaration that the product complies with applicable UK laws.

SIMEL's UKCA Mark Compliance Process

SIMEL takes a rigorous approach to ensuring that every motor destined for the UK market meets the requirements of the UKCA Mark. Our process involves:

  • Testing and Certification: Each motor is tested in our in-house laboratory to ensure it meets UK safety and quality standards.
  • Material Control: We use materials that comply with UK safety standards, ensuring sustainable and safe production.
  • Declaration of Conformity: Each motor is accompanied by a declaration of compliance with UK regulations.

Benefits for our UK customers

Our compliance with the UKCA offers UK customers a number of advantages:

  • Guaranteed Safety: Every motor is designed and built to meet the highest UK safety standards.
  • UK Market Access: Our customers can sell and use Simel motors in the UK without worrying about compliance issues.
  • Certified Quality: The UKCA mark is a testament to our commitment to providing superior quality, compliant products.

Regulatory Compliance and Adherence to Standards

In order to obtain the UKCA mark for electric motors, SIMEL complies with the following UK directives, which ensure that SIMEL motors not only meet UK market regulations, but are also safe to use and designed to minimise environmental impact during their life cycle:

  • The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 (S.I. 2016 No 1101): This defines safety requirements for electrical equipment intended for use within defined voltage limits, ensuring safety for people, pets and property.

  • The Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2016 (S.I. 2016 No 1091): Ensures that motors are immune to electromagnetic interference and do not interfere with other electronic devices.

  • The Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2012 (S.I. 2012 No 3032): Concerns the restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, protecting the environment and human health.

  • The EcoDesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information Regulations 2021 (S.I. 2021 No 745): Establishes eco-design requirements to reduce the environmental impact of products throughout their life cycle.
